Birding Walk at the Cox Creek Open House

The Maryland Port Administration is pleased to offer the public the opportunity to explore Cox Creek Dredged Material Containment Facility, only accessible a few times a year, including during our Open House! Come learn about what’s happening at Cox Creek and access this top birding site in the state.
The guided birding walk begins at 8am. Space is limited, registration is required. Please register by completing the form at the end of this page. You will receive a confirmation email upon submission.
If birding registration is full, we encourage you to take advantage of a self-guided visit during this open house event, where the site will be open for public access from 10am – 1:30pm. For more information about the Cox Creek Open House, click here.

Cox Creek Open House Birding Walk Specifics & Safety Information
Birding Walk reservations are issued on a first-come, first-served basis. Due to the high interest, they fill up quickly.
Birding Walks are typically held on rock, gravel, or muddy roads with the potential of crossing shallow water. This walk will traverse 3-4 miles of uneven terrain. Please note that the Cox Creek Dredged Material Containment Facility is an active construction site and your safety is our number one priority. For that reason:
- Sturdy, closed-toe shoes are essential (i.e. no sandals or thin-soled sneakers)
- Please consider bringing water and sun protection as there is minimal shade
The birding walk may be canceled in the event of high winds or inclement weather. Please check your email by 9pm on October 20 to be sure there has been no unforeseen cancellation. This walk may be canceled the morning of due to unforeseen circumstances. If you need to cancel, please notify us immediately by emailing Tim Carney at tcarney@menv.com so that your spot can be allocated to someone on the waitlist.
