Every Dredged Material Containment Facility (DMCF) is carefully planned to receive dredged material in the most environmentally beneficial way possible. From reclaiming land from erosion to extending shorelines, the DMCFs transform dredged material into habitat for plant and animal life and for people to learn about and enjoy nature. Explore the wide range of activities available at each of the DMCFs.
A contingency option, if no other placement options are available, is depositing sediment in an existing ocean site. Prior to the use of this option, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers would be required to complete an Environmental Assessment and provide public notice to Maryland and Virginia.
